Music by Teruaki SUZUKI
Waka poem by Tadashi FUJITA
Features:
Gauche plays…” was composed as a part of the “Singing Voices All Over Japan” project, which is directed toward the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Its lyrics are taken from a waka poem that was published in the “Asahi Kadan” in June, immediately after the earthquake.
The composer says, “From the flow of the waka poem, the sound of the cello played with the chorus and the chorus spinning the melody with the cello naturally came to me.”
The sound is a wonderful fusion of contemporary musical taste and the lyrical richness of tonal music and conjures up images of the majestic Tohoku landscape of Kenji Miyazawa’s time.
Care has been taken to keep the piece within a range that even junior high school students can sing easily, and the rich sounds of the cello make it an enjoyable piece to play together.
