Kunio IMAI

Born in 1942 in Dalian. Learned piano and composition from his father.
Graduated from Tohoku University, Faculty of Education (majoring in music). Studied composition under Fumihiko Fukui and Saburo Takada.
Studied conducting, choral music, harpsichord, recorder, etc. at the Department of Music, Cambridge State University from 1978 to 1979.
He studied conducting, choral music, harpsichord, and recorder.
He studied conducting under N. Hahn, R. Reeve, Hideomi Kuroiwa, H. Rilling, and Keiko Hisayama.

From 1983 to 1986, he participated in the Tokyo Bach Academy and the Stuttgart Bach Academy.
He is currently the executive director of the All Japan Choral Union, the president of the Miyagi Choral Union, and the music director and secretary-general of the Sendai Bach Academy.
Professor Emeritus at Shokei Gakuin University.
He is the permanent conductor of Green Wood Harmony and the choir group “June Singing”.

He has received the Miyagi Prefecture Art Encouragement Prize, the Miyagi Prefecture Educational and Cultural Merit Award, the Sendai City Government Special Zone Merit Award, and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award for Regional Cultural Merit.
He received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award at the All Japan Chorus Contest, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation Award, and the Gold Prize at the Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest.
Received the 68th (FY 2008) Kahoku Culture Award.
